Multiple suspects in custody after barricaded situation on Detroit's east side

Six suspects are in custody after peacefully surrendering a barricaded situation at a home on Detroit's east side Thursday afternoon.

The situation started when police observed a shootout between two groups, which Deputy Chief Elvin Barren says originated from a home in the 12000 block of Duchess Street, which is near Morang Avenue and Kelly Road. We're told officers immediately called for backup and set up a perimeter in the neighborhood. Barren says police quickly identified one of the persons in the home as a primary suspect for a quadruple shooting on Halloween

Officials were able to peacefully negotiate with all the people inside the home. Barren says 15 people were inside the home, five of which were children. In the end, six people were taken into custody and the children have been moved to a safe location.

Barren says three of those who are in custody are believed to be connected to the quadruple Halloween shooting, in which one teenager was killed. Three other teens were hurt. Barren said police are still determining the alleged criminal involvement of the other three persons in custody.

He urged neighbors to stay indoors still as police are still on scene. Two Detroit schools were also locked down Thursday afternoon for the police situation, Denby High School and Carleton Elementary School.
