Muslim customers sue Little Caesars for non-Hallal pizza

DEARBORN, Mich. (WJBK) - His $100 million lawsuit against Little Caesars failed, but a Dearborn attorney tries again to sue the popular pizza business. 

Attorney Majed Moughni says his Muslim clients honored Hallal pizza but ended up eating pork which goes against their religion. That lawyer says there are more potential plaintiffs waiting in the wings to get involved in the case and he will file more lawsuits against Little Caesars. 

Moughni said the clients in this lawsuit filed Thursday morning did not know they were eating pepperoni until they saw pictures of pork and pork in Hallal pepperoni side-by-side in a story on FOX 2.

"I said can you describe it to us? (They said) 'Yes, it's chewy, it's flat, it has white pieces, it's greasy,'" Moughni.

It was pork. allegedly and not the Hallal or beef made to look like pepperoni they ordered with their Hot and Ready - despite the fact that Little Caesars on Schaeffer in Dearborn advertised they sold Hallal pepperoni.  

The attorney is representing the couple who says they received the pork pepperoni pizza when the ordered the Hallal pizza in accordance with their religious practices.

"It's a sin first of all," said Moughni. "And just to have your body be fed something that is against your religion and some people can't handle the actual pork itself. I've had clients call me up who have gotten sick."

And they are not alone, Moughni says there are a number of other Muslims who order Hallal pepperoni pizzas from the restaurant and got pork instead. This is not his first lawsuit against Little Caesars. 

He says the company refuses to admit employees have been dropping the ball. 

"They even refused to give us a chance to ask and try to let the truth come out." Moughni said. "They recently filed a counter-lawsuit against one of my clients when we asked for the employees to be deposed. They now want to dismiss that lawsuit. They want that lawsuit thrown out. This is their own lawsuit where they alleged my client was lying."

FOX 2 received this statement from Little Caesars:

"We believe this, the third baseless lawsuit brought against our organization by Mr. Moughni in recent months, will be dismissed in court. We will defend ourselves aggressively, as we have in the past. Due to the lack of merit and frivolousness of Mr. Moughni's repeated allegations, we are considering whether to seek sanctions against him."
