Nearly 600 grams of fentanyl found in Canadian mail trucks at Blue Water Bridge crossing

PORT HURON, Mich. (FOX 2) - The U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced that it recovered 600 grams of fentanyl in the month of January found in packages on Canadian mail trucks bound for the U.S.

The CBPS said officers recovered eight different shipments where the contents of the package on the mail trucks didn't match the manifested contents.

Once opened at the Centralized Examination Station in Marysville, a white rock-like substance was found in all of the packages, CBP said. It was tested and later determined to be fentanyl.

"Our officer's commitment to serve and protect is constant and this is just one of the ways we are doing our part to stem the opioid crisis impacting our nation" said Port Director Michael Fox. 

Of the eight shipments recovered, CBP said it had 572.34 grams, estimated to be worth about $15,000 once distributed and processed.
