No new leads in body found in Canton Twp sewer

CANTON TWP, Mich. (WJBK) - A death investigation is underway in Canton after a body was found in the township's sewer system.

Police say a public works crew came across the body while doing work in a field near Saltz and Canton Center roads on Monday near the Glens Condominium Complex.

"A very, very dear friend of mine lives here, I was coming to check on their property and ... No words," said Ebony Banks, who lives in the area.

Detective Sgt. Dan Traylor with Canton police say they are still actively investigating and still in the process of going through some evidence they found that will hopefully lead to the identification.

Canton police say at this time they do not believe the person was murdered, so how how did this person end up 10 feet below ground in a sewer line and how did he or she die?

Traylor said police should have a better handle on the investigation over the next few days.

It's unclear how long the body had been in the sewer line. The Canton Police Department says it was not investigating any active missing person's report.
