Detroit police are investigating a shootout at a gas station on Detroit's west side that killed one man and injured another.

Sources said a woman was planning to meet a 22-year-old man at the Fuel Zone gas station on the corner of Fenkell Avenue and Evergreen Road at 3:15 a.m. Sunday.

Her 24-year-old boyfriend showed up to the gas station and some type of altercation between the two men lead to a shootout between them.

The 24-year-old man was shot in the chest and died from his injuries. The 22-year-old, who is a CPL holder, was shot in the foot and is recovering at the hospital. He remains in stable condition.

"We don't know why the woman asked the gentleman to go to that location," said Detroit Police Chief James Craig. "Not sure if she just wanted to meet him there or if the boyfriend followed. We're just not certain of that."

Detroit police are continuing their investigation, but at this time it appears the CPL holder fired in self-defense.

Police are still in the early stages of their investigation, but those in the area at the time of the incident are encouraged to call police with any information.

"Everybody is being cocky because they have guns," said Oneil Colley, who lives in the area. "To me, guns don't make life, they take life and the minute you get a gun all of a sudden, you forgot about the creation of life."
