Person hit, killed by Amtrak train in Royal Oak
ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WJBK) - A person was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Royal Oak Wednesday morning.
Amtrak Train 351 was approaching the station to pick up passengers, when those who were waiting say they heard the horn blare around around 5:30 a.m.
"I got here about 5:15 and saw the lights, and then the train stopped," one waiting passenger told FOX 2's Roop Raj. Another said a representative came down and told them what happened about 15-20 minutes later.
Federal investigators aren't providing the victim's identity or details of the crash. Amtrak officials, though, say the person was trespassing and "obstructed the path of the train."
A large police presence is at Catalpa Drive and Maxwell Avenue, as Royal Oak police are assisting federal investigators.
No one aboard the train was injured. The train was heading from Pontiac, Michigan, to Chicago. Train service was delayed until about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday when the investigation was complete.
