Police: Girlfriend shoots, kills man after day of fighting, abuse

A woman is under arrest after her boyfriend was fatally shot Thursday at a home on Detroit's northeast side.

The shooting happened in the 15,700 block of Novara Street, which is near Seven Mile and Kelly roads.

Police say it was a domestic dispute that turned deadly. Police say the 28-year-old girlfriend told them the coupld had been fighting throughout the day, and he had been assaulting her so she got her gun and shot him.

She was still at the house when police arrived and has been taken into custody. Police are investigating if the she acted in self-defense.

Police tell us children were at the home when the shooting happened. They're in the custody of Child Protective Services.

The man killed was 33 years old. His name was not given.
