Possible human remains found on Mill Street in Ecorse
ECORSE, Mich. (WJBK) - An investigation is underway after what may be human remains were found in Ecorse on Friday.
Police say the remains were discovered on Mill street near 4th Street in Ecorse Friday morning. Additional details have been released at this time.
Both Ecorse Police and Michigan State Police were on scene and investigating.
The Wayne County Medical Examiner confirms their office has received remains that are suspected of being from a human. They will have to be tested and examined by an anthropologist to be confirmed as human. That process will take months to complete.
Police sources say the body parts were found over the past couple of days and it's unclear if they belong to one or more people.
"It's overwhelming because this is a quiet neighborhood," neighbor Ophelia Hanson said.
On Friday, a drone was seen in the sky assisting with the search. Evidence techs and Michigan State Police were also spotted working the scene.
Sources tell FOX 2 that this case has a Detroit connection but Detroit Police will only say they are assisting Ecorse.
Neighbors tell FOX 2 that the area has been a dumping ground for trash in the past.
