Residents near Hungarian Creek Falls fed up after dumping
TAMARACK CITY, Mich. (AP) — Residents near Hungarian Creek Falls in Michigan's Upper Peninsula say they're fed up after trash was dumped in an area stream.
Mike Schmitt, a member of the community in Tamarack City, says pieces of riding lawnmowers, TVs, computers, mattresses, tires and children's toys are among the trash found. WLUC-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1HtYU4Q ) that's leaving visitors to the area's scenic trails disappointed.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says it believes people dumped trash from a bridge above the stream. The DNR's Ron Yesney says there previously haven't been problems with dumping at the site. The agency is working with volunteers to get the area cleaned up.
Meanwhile, the DNR is monitoring the area to make sure that more dumping doesn't take place.
