Rochester teachers, PTA rally in support of DPS teachers

Rochester teachers and PTA members are standing in solidarity with Detroit Public Schools Monday morning by holding several rallies outside their schools.

They're rallying for equal education for everybody regardless of zip code, the teachers tell us. They say they do not believe that equal education is happening in Detroit, where Detroit Public School teachers have been protesting the conditions in their classrooms and the unknown future and funding for their schools.

The rally was also in support of the Senate's bill to keep DPS afloat as opposed to the House bill, because it keeps certified teachers in the classroom. They say the Senate bill also has more adequate transitional funding, and a more expedient return to local control.

The rallies took place 30 minutes prior to the start of the school outside each of the Rochester Community School buildings.
