Sak's Fifth Avenue robbery leads to heroin bust in Troy
TROY, Mich. (WJBK) - A robbery at Sak's Fifth Avenue in Troy earlier this week led police to a heroin bust in a parked car.
Police say a man and a woman from Ohio came went to the store on Big Beaver Road and tried to steal nearly $700 worth of merchandise. Loss Prevention was on to them, though, and stopped them.
The woman complied but the man continued to walk off.
Police caught up with him, and say he had a set of car keys with him. Police searched the 2008 Buick and found a plastic bag in the center console that contained 17 smaller bags that each contained an unknown substance wrapped in lottery tickets. Police believed the substance to be heroin and arrested the man.
The woman was also arrested, and, while she was being transported to the lock-up facility, police noticed she was fidgeting in the back seat.
Officers checked out the situation and found an additional $880 worth of stolen merchandise that she was trying to hide. She also had wire cutters on her that police say were used to take off the security tags.
Both suspects, Stacy Lattimore, 43, of South Euclid Ohio; and 51-year-old Gerald Grooms, of Cleveland Ohio currently face charges in connection with the retail fraud. Lattimore was given a $75,000 bond and Grooms was given a $30,000 bond.
