Son who made 911 call after finding dad dead, now charged with his murder

Gregory Lynn Nieman is charged with his father's strangulation death.

A man who found his father dead and called 911 is now considered a suspect in the death.

Gregory Nieman, 55, has been charged with the murder of his 89-year-old father. He was found dead in his Macomb Township condominium the morning of Dec. 27.

An autopsy by the Macomb Medical Examiner's Office Monday determined the elderly man had been strangled.

The victim's son, Nieman, had called the dispatch center at 10:30 a.m. reporting his father was not breathing and "cold to the touch."  His phone call recording was released by police Wednesday.

The victim's son who had been questioned and released by police Sunday, was arrested and taken into custody.

Nieman has been charged with first degree murder and was arraigned Wednesday in Shelby Township District Court and is being held without bond. He is due back in court Jan. 7.
