Stories of survival from Metro Detroiter still in Las Vegas after shooting

LAS VEGAS (WJBK) -
We are beginning to hear the accounts of Metro Detroiters who were in Las Vegas at the time of Sunday's mass shooting.

Stephen Paddock shot and killed 59 people, injuring 527 from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel during a country music festival down below. He killed himself before police could get to him, leaving his motive a mystery.

Some Detroiters from Keego Harbor told Roop Raj about their experience hiding.

"As we got closer and closer to the event, at that point cops and security guards stopped us and told us we had to get off the street and get into any safe location," said Brad Kallen. "At that point we jumped into the Monte Carlo where a whole group of people started to run toward us and say there was an active shooter, there is a shooter coming get out.

"We didn't know what to think. My friends found a safe place in a kitchen in a restaurant in the Monte Carlo. I came back out to the strip."

Kallen said he saw multiple police cars driving from Mandalay Bay to the Bellagio.

"At that point people were saying there was a shooter at Planet Hollywood, at the Bellagio, there was so much misinformation and nobody really knew," Kallen said.

One metro Detroiter at the Aria Hotel said they saw people running in and out of the hotel with blood on them screaming.
