Superheroes Walk for Miracles at the Detroit Zoo

Royal Oak, Mich (WJBK) - Superheroes of all ages gathered for the Beaumont Children's "Walk for Miracles" at the Detroit Zoo Saturday.

Hundreds walked the zoo, many dressed as their favorite superhero character raising money for the children’s hospital.

"We're celebrating the super hero patients, moving forward in their lives, the super hero parents who are helping all the kids as well, and we're raising more than $100,000 today just because all these people want to help kids in the community," said Tom McGannon with the Beaumont Health Foundation.

Johnny Hendricks diagnosed with Leukemia at the age of 6. After a successful treatment, he relapsed four months later.

"So he's going through another round of treatment again, so hopefully this time he kicks it and he'll be finished with treatment April of next year," Johnny’s mom Samantha Hendricks said.

Johnny's fighting spirit and amazing insight apparent when he spoke with Fox 2.

"The facts that we have cancer doesn’t really change our personality or how we are, we are still kids no matter what and we want to be treated like that and we don't want to be treated in a special way because we have cancer," Jonny said.

Not all of the children at the walk are fighting a serious illness, many are siblings or friends. So many amazing stories and inspiring people at the Walk for Miracles.
