Suspicious items safely dismantled outside Dearborn Walmart
A bomb threat was investigated at the Dearborn Walmart Wednesday evening.
A bomb squad member investigated a suspicious device, performing tests on it before dismantling it at about 8:15 p.m.
The roped off area has been cleared and shoppers parked near the area are now being allowed to leave. The police have not said what was inside the items, but performed a number of tests including X-raying them, before an officer wearing a protective suit, dismantled it.
Police say that it appeared to be food service items mistakenly left behind in the parking lot.
The device was found outside the store at 5851 Mercury Drive near the Southfield freeway. In images from SkyFOX, the package looked to be a black cauldron or pot sitting next to what looks like a suitcase or briefcase with an object underneath. Wires or cords appear to be running from the black pot to the case.
Numerous shoppers were stranded outside the store, waiting for the situation to be resolved. The package was first reported at about 6:30 p.m.
Officers have cleared the area.
