Teen drove 138 mph on I-75 trying to make curfew, police say
HOLLY, Mich. (FOX 2) - Michigan State Police busted a teen driver for going nearly 140 mph on I-75.
The reason the teen gave for going nearly 70 miles over the speed limit? His curfew.
MSP says this happened on Black Friday on I-75 up by Holly Road. A trooper clocked a 2012 Chevy going 138 mph in the left lane. The driver tried to duck off onto Holly Road but was caught.
The 17-year-old told the trooper he was driving so fast because he was late for his 9:30 p.m. curfew.
The trooper gave the teen a break on a reckless driving charge but, obviously, still handed out a ticket for speeding.
The teen got a little something extra, too -- "The SMH award," MSP Metro Detroit quipped in a tweet, along with the "It's a major award!" gif from "A Christmas Story."
"SMH" is internet slang that is usually said in disbelief or disappointment. It stands for "shaking my head."
