The American's with Charlie LeDuff: Ferguson to Detroit - The other side of the badge

A lot has been said about the black experience after the killing of an unarmed black teen by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. There are conflicting accounts about what happened between the cop and the teen. There is no videotape and so we may never know what really happened.

But after getting an unprovoked beating with a traffic cone in Ferguson myself, I wondered what it must be like to be on the other side of the shield. Now obviously the police aren't talking in Ferguson, so I rode along with another police department in Detroit - in America's blackest city. I chose Detroit because the people there know me. The cops there know me and I know them.
