The PGA Tour is coming to the Detroit Golf Club in 2019

Write it in stone - the PGA Tour is coming to Michigan in 2019.

The Professional Golf Association and sponsor Quicken Loans made the announcement Wednesday - with the likely host the Detroit Golf Club.

The announcement is a historic one, it would mark the first time a PGA event would be held in the city.

It is great news for Detroiters like Dr. David Wash, he lives on Fairway Drive which backs up to the golf club.

"The impact is going to be great," he said. "You can come out here and relax and people will be able to see that there are some nice areas of Detroit."

The PGA tour stop would help fuel Detroit's comeback, bringing tourists, energy and resources to the neighborhoods surrounding the golf club and businesses on Livernois - "the avenue of fashion."

"By 2019 we will have some great additional pieces, more restaurants, more eateries that have an entertainment twist to it," said Rufus Bartell, Simply Casual Clothing Store. "We're looking forward to it. One of many other events we should be drawing."

The tournament will be the first PGA event held in Michigan since 2009 when Warwick Hills hosted the Buick Open for the last time.
