Thief caught on camera stealing package off woman's porch
DETROIT (WJBK) - One Detroit woman has a warning for consumers after a thief stole a package right off her door step. But, just when she least expected it, she received a gesture to help restore her faith in humanity.
"I was looking forward to a new (cooking) pot set, I wanted to cook dinner in it," Miaesha Pace says.
But Pace would have to wait a little longer for her brand new Rachael Ray pot set she just ordered from QVC.
Her recently-installed surveillance camera clearly shows someone swiping the package off the front porch of their home on Warrington in Detroit - right in the middle of the day.
A neighbor saw it go down and alerted her boyfriend right away.
"It is a little disheartening," Pace says. "You work hard for your money, work hard for what you buy. You don't expect somebody to run up and take it."
But that's exactly what the crook did. However, he was careful.
On the video, you can see their SUV drive by and the people inside apparently spot the package. The driver then circles back, waits for cars to pass and the scene is clear before the greedy thief makes a run for it.
He grabs the box off the porch, races back and jumps into the getaway car where a woman was waiting to whisk him away. Little did they know, the camera picked up their entire caper.
"I was actually excited to get a few view of his face, like a really clear picture," she says.
Pace and her boyfriend turned the surveillance video over to Detroit police, who are investigating. In the meantime, Pace contacted QVC and told them how her package was stolen.
And when she least expected it - a chance to restore her faith in humanity. The company sent her a new pot and pan set worth $350, no questions asked.
"They were super nice," she said. "They sent it out the same day."
