Thieves steal $400K in cash, jewelry from Lyon Twp house

LYON, TWP., Mich. - Thieves caught on camera targeting a home in Lyon Township.

They broke in through the sliding glass door and made off with $400,000 worth in cash, gold and jewelry.

Caught on camera in Lyon Township, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Tuesday is hoping someone recognizes the two suspects from the break-in of the Eight Mile residence.

Early Monday morning while the homeowner was out, the alarm was not set. The burglars were seen on surveillance prying open the back door wearing all white. At least one was armed with a crowbar.

"They knew where they were going because they went directly downstairs," said Dan, a cousin of the homeowner. "That's where obviously the safe was."

Deputies say cash, gold and silver bars as well as a diamond ring.

"Credit cards numbers, titles, wills and a lot of stuff," Dan said.

And the safe was broken open with what the family says appears to be a grinder.

"It was extreme, the safe is probably about an 800-pound safe," Dan said. "It is approximately four feet tall by two feet wide."

The thieves left quite a mess, Dan says it took about 40 minutes to bust open the safe. They then escaped out the cellar door.

The thieves are seen wearing white gloves, hoodies and sheer scarves over their faces. One wore a ball cap and turned just enough to see the side of his face.

"Who (knows) if someone would have been here," Dan said.  "Who knows if there would have been violence. These people need to be off the street."

Now police and the homeowner, are asking anyone who may recognize these two to call police. A cash reward is being offered to put these crooks in cuffs.
