Toddlers shot by child at in-home daycare upgraded to serious condition

DEARBORN, Mich. (WJBK) - Doctors of the 3-year-old victims who were shot inside an in-home daycare have upgraded their conditions. The children are said to be in serious but stable condition at the hospital. 

The children, who were shot by another toddler, were hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday morning after the shooting in the 30000 block of Harding.

We're told one of the victims was shot in the shoulder, and is expected to make a full recovery. Authorities haven't elaborated on the injuries of the other victim. 

The children were being cared for by a woman who runs a babysitting service out of her home. FOX 2 has checked the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs and did not find a daycare listed at the address on Harding Street.

According to police, they found multiple guns inside the home where at least six children were at the time.

Two sources have told FOX 2 that the gun was inside a nightstand inside the home.

Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad says the first responders did everything they could to get the little children to trauma units as quickly as humanly possible.

"If there's charges, they'll be appropriate charges. we seem to know all the parties involved and the investigation is ongoing," Haddad said.

Investigators will be meeting with the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office to determine if charges will be filed in this case.
