Uber driver shot dead during shift in Detroit

Detroit police are investigating a shooting on the city's west side Sunday evening. Police say the man was shot several times, and a witness told police the victim was her Uber driver.

Police say the shooting happened before 8 p.m. in the 15000 block of Coyle Street, which is near Fenkell and Greenfield.

Police spoke to a witness, who said the victim was her Uber driver and that he was at that location to take her to get something to eat. The woman told police she got into the Uber driver's car, and then saw some bright lights pull up next to the car.

She says the driver looked back, yelled an expletive and then got out of his car and ran.

The woman told police the person inside the other car got out and fired shots at the Uber driver, and that he was hit several times. She said the suspect walked over to the victim and moved something from his pants pocket before getting back into his car and driving off.

Police don't have a description of the suspect at this time, but say he was in a dark-colored pick-up truck.

Police have not yet given the identity of the victim, or a motive for the shooting at this time.
