Victim posts video of thief stealing UPS package from porch to Facebook
WAYNE, Mich. - Just moments after the delivery man pulled up and dropped off a package, a thief swooped in behind him and took it all away. Unlucky for him, it was caught on camera.
The Wayne woman wants her stuff back and the thief in handcuffs.
See, she got the email saying the package was delivered but when she got there, there was nothing in sight.
"It was that email notification that gave this Wayne resident an uneasy feeling," she said. "I was really angry cause this was one of my daughter's Christmas gifts. I was hurt."
The woman checked her surveillance system. At 6 p.m., the UPS guy dropped of the box. Minutes later, the thief picked it up. He was wearing a hoodie and made sure his face was covered. He takes the box and even steals a look at the camera before leaving.
The homeowner says she wants the crook to pay for what he's done.
"I'm sorry you have to steal from hardworking families and I really hope you rethink your actions," she said.
After the homeowner posted the surveillance video on her Facebook page she believes she may not be the only victim in her neighborhood.
"A neighbor a couple of blocks over says she had packages stolen last night also. I think he's on a crime spree," she said.
UPS officials said in a statement that they contacted the homeowner and will compensate her for the full value of her item. This is an unfortunate incident and police will investigate the criminal activity. They also say that incidents involving UPS deliveries are rare.
As the police investigation continues, this homeowner says she will change the way her packages are delivered
"I've already contacted UPS and Fed Ex and my post office and told them please don't leave any packages on my porch and to require a signature," she said.
