Victim stabbed by daughter at GM Tech Center expected to survive

WARREN, Mich. (WJBK) - UPDATE: The valet service worker who claimed he was fired will return to work, according to a statement from General Motors:

The armed valet who stopped a stabbing incident at the GM Tech Center in Warren says he is still off the job.

Warren police say the victim of Wednesday morning's stabbing at the GM tech center in Warren was the mother of the suspect.

"They were hugging and the daughter got upset about something and she stabbed her mother in the back and then it went from there," said Warren Mayor Jim Fouts.  "A very tragic situation the daughter has some mental issues, two children, and the mother was in a tough situation."

Fouts says the victim, 52-year-old Stephanie Kerr, is an employee of GM, has pulled through surgery to mend multiple stab wounds in the neck, back and abdomen. She is still in critical condition but expected to survive.

"She has improved thanks to Didarul Sarder, who made a difference, pulled out his gun and stopped the assault from continuing," Fouts said.

Sarder, a valet. claims he was fired by a GM employee after pulling his gun to stop the stabbing.  His employer, SP Plus, which is contracted by GM, has suspended him with pay, according to a company spokesperson, pending the results of the investigation.

GM claims he was never fired, and will be welcomed back if he is cleared by SP Plus.

"Certainly termination should never be the option for someone who is a hero," Fouts said. "Even if technically he shouldn't have had a gun. It was a legal gun and in this case it was wisely used."

The woman who allegedly stabbed her mother is expected to be arraigned Friday.

City officials expect at that time, they will also be able to release surveillance video of the stabbing and the woman's rescue.
