Volunteers answer call for help after storm causes mess on Belle Isle

It's all hands on deck as crews are spending the day cleaning up on Belle Isle. Trees down, drains blocked, all from severe weather this week.

When the Belle Isle Conservancy Facebook page put out the call for help, volunteers answered.

"I came out here to make Michigan better place and to do my part in the community," said Kamarah Harris of Westland.

Jim Yurgil of Livonia recently retired and made an impactful use of his time.

"I've got time to give and if I can help out, I want to," he said. "It's just the right thing to do."

Michelle Hodges, president of the Belle Isle Conservancy, says she believes the island lost between 75-100 trees.
