Woman drowns looking for lost dog in Troy
TROY, Mich. (WJBK) - A woman's body was found in the lake at Emerald Lakes Village in Troy.
Residents who live in the area off Adkins Road, are shocked.
"We think she was looking for her neighbor's dog that she was watching," said Sgt. Meghan Lehman, Troy police. "That's the last communication she had, that she was looking for the dog."
Troy police said that about 11 p.m. Wednesday the 61-year-old woman from Troy was dog sitting. But the dog got out. She went to look for the dog near the lake.
At some point she apparently fell in.
"This is a residential area, it's not very well lit," Lehman said. "Obviously this was not intentional."
Residents who spoke with FOX 2 said they saw something in the water at 7:30 Thursday morning. It appeared to be a woman's coat. Police were called and The woman was pulled out of the water.
"This is absolutely horrid, this looks like a nice neighborhood," said Travis Steckler who witnessed first responders in the lake. "Nobody deserves that."
Police say the dog that the woman was looking for, actually did come home later that night - safe. Many of the neighbors in the tight-knit community did not want to go on camera.
"This appears to be an accidental drowning," Lehman said.
Police are not releasing the woman's name until all of the family has been notified.
