Woman fatally shot after man in black van barged into home

Detroit police are investigating after a 30-year-old woman was shot to death Sunday evening.

A witness says that he and the woman were in a home around 10:30 p.m. in the 7600 block of Stahelin Avenue, which is near Southfield Road and Warren Avenue, when a man barged in and started shooting.

Detroit Police say there was some suspicious activity leading up to the shooting, involving the driver of a black van.

The witness and the victim were driving when they were almost hit by the van at the intersection of Sawyer. They continued driving and pulled into the driveway of the home on Stahelin, and the black van was still behind them. Police say the driver stopped in front of the house and then drove away -- but came back a few minutes later after the witness and victim were already inside.

Police say the suspect got out of the van, kicked in the front door and fired gunshots into the room. The woman was hit once and was eventually pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was hurt.

Police haven't said yet what a motive for the shooting could be. It's not known right now if the suspect and victim may have known each other.

A suspect description hasn't been given at this time.
