Woman kidnapped and sexually assaulted on Detroit's west side

DETROIT - It was another scary day for those living and working along West Warren in Detroit, when a man with bad intentions came driving down the road.

A 24-year-old woman was abducted from a bus stop on West Warren, then taken three blocks away into a neighborhood.

The suspect - a heavy set black man with a light complexion - threatened her with a weapon to get her inside his black Ford Explorer around 6 a.m. Tuesday. He then drove her to the intersection of Minock and Sawyer where he sexually assaulted her.

"I think a lot of hate and violence has grown throughout this community. And it used to be a respectable nice community," said Detroit resident John Stodulski.

People living nearby are sick of hearing about crimes like this.

"It used to be a nice neighborhood, now it's drug city," said Detroit resident Earl Brown.

“It's terrible that something like this has to happen, you know, especially somebody waiting at the bus stop,” said Detroit resident Akeem Alfahili. “Somebody trying to kidnap or rape them - that's really really horrible. That's the worst people that we have to watch out for."

"I used to walk to school by myself,” said Alfahili’s nephew Jaylen Roselond. “Any time I saw strangers I used to cross the big street."

Detroit police are still investigating but tell us the woman is doing fine. They say her attacker is 5'8'', 250 pounds, and was wearing sunglasses and a blue work shirt. Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit Police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP.

Stodulski said, "I think a stronger police presence around here would probably help it out to restore it to what it once was. And that's my personal belief."
