Women identified, arrested after Westland store owner assaulted

Three people have been arrested after a store owner in Westland was assaulted last week. The assault was caught on cell phone video, and is said to have happened after the owner chased the women through the parking lot and accused them of stealing a basket full of hair and other beauty supplies.

Police have arrested Brenda Walters, 26, of Inkster, and Alize Alford, 18, also of Inkster. Police say the other suspects in the case is a juveniles and will not be identified.

The assault happened outside Amy's Wig on Michigan Avenue.

Three young women were inside shopping for hair, when the owner believed he saw them run out with hundreds of dollars of unpaid merchandise. So, the owner ran after them and they started attacking him. He was even bit on the arm.

The three women weren't alone. A group of women got out of a U-Haul truck in the parking lot and began attacking him as well.

A witness in the parking lot captured the assault on his cell phone and was able to record the license plate of the U-Haul, which he turned over to police.

Police say when they arrested the women, they also recovered "a large amount of stolen property."

Walters has been identified by police as the woman in the video who bit the store owner. She's been charged with three counts of unarmed robbery. Her bond was set at $50,000.

Alford has also been charged with three counts of unarmed robbery and her bond was set at $25,000.

Both women are due in court on November 10.
