Young father one of many killed in violent Detroit weekend
DETROIT (WJBK) - Police are searching for man who shot and killed a new father in southwest Detroit. This is just one of many deadly shootings that happened this weekend.
Police are reaching out the public, hoping they can help track down the many suspects in this weekend's violence, including the one that shot and killed a 24-year-old father in southwest Detroit Sunday.
The 24-year-old was killed while visiting family and friends in the 2500 block of Sharon, which is near Dix Avenue and Vernor Highway by the General George S. Patton Memorial Center. The shooting happened just before 8 p.m.
Police say the victim was talking to a group of people when a man walked up and opened fired. The victim was shot in the back several times and died from his injuries.
Relatives tell FOX 2 the victim is a father of twin boys.
"We don't know what the motive is at this point; it is new and it's still preliminary," says Detroit Police Captn. Elaine Miles. "We're not sure why this person was targeted, but he was shot several times and he was pronounced dead on the scene."
Police have a very limited description of the suspect. If you were in the area and heard or saw anything suspicious, you're asked to give Detroit Police a call.
