WATCH: Avila 'today is a good day for the Detroit Tigers' following trade deadline

The Detroit Tigers announced Tuesday they have traded OF Leonys Martin and RHP Kyle Dowdy to the Cleveland Indians in exchange for SS Willi Castro right before the 4pm non-waiver trade deadline. 

Castro, 21, is hitting .245 through 91 games this season for AA Akron.  The switch hitter also has five home runs with 20 doubles & 39 RBI.  The Puerto Rico native was named an Eastern League All-Star and was ranked as the Indians number 8 prospect according to MLB Pipeline.

Martin, 30, is in his first season with the Tigers and hitting .251 with nine home runs and 29 RBI in 78 games.  

He has a $1.75 million salary, of which the Indians are responsible for $573,925. He has earned $600,000 in bonuses based on plate appearances, and would earn $100,000 each for 350 and each additional 25 through 475 plus $50,000 for 500.

More importantly, he is under club control through next season through arbitration.

Dowdy, 25, has an 8-8 record with a 4.74 ERA with 92 strikeouts between AA & AAA this season.
