Tigers put Fulmer on DL, activate Martin

DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Tigers have put right-hander Michael Fulmer on the 10-day disabled list with a left oblique strain. The Tigers announced the move Friday. Detroit also activated outfielder Leonys Martin from the DL, optioned outfielder Mikie Mahtook to Triple-A Toledo and recalled right-hander Victor Alcantara from Toledo.

Chelios leaving Red Wings to return to Chicago

DETROIT (AP) - Chris Chelios is leaving the Detroit Red Wings to return to his hometown of Chicago. Chelios spent a decade with the Red Wings as a player from 1999-2009, and he's also been an adviser for the team. His Hall of Fame career as a defenseman started in Montreal before he spent eight years with the Blackhawks.

HOUSTON (AP) - Gerrit Cole wasn't as dominant as he has been throughout the first part of the season. He didn't need to be. Cole struck out eight in 5 2/3 strong innings, and the Houston Astros hit three home runs in a 9-1 win over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday. Cole (10-2) allowed one run and three hits with four walks after being activated from the bereavement list prior to the game.

HOUSTON (AP) - Dallas Keuchel is beginning to look like his old self, and that's welcome news for a Houston Astros team eyeing another title. Keuchel pitched six strong innings, three relievers completed the seven-hitter and Alex Bregman provided the offense by setting a career high with his 20th homer to give the Astros a 3-0 win over the Detroit Tigers on Friday night.
