Metro Detroit weather: One more quiet day before snowstorm drops several inches of snow on Southeast Michigan

You may be thinking we are due for snow and you may be right. Snow totals for this month are as much as 2 inches below normal - but we'll add a few more this week.

For the season, it's even higher; more than 13 inches below the norm. We may rectify that this week with accumulating snow expected Wednesday and again on Saturday.

Let's start with today. A quiet Tuesday with a few snow showers and colder temperatures. Highs only in the 20s (29). Thankfully, the wind remains light, so no wind chills to discuss.

Timeline:

Onto the main event: A Winter Storm Watch goes into effect Wednesday afternoon extending to Thursday morning. Snow moves in Downriver by noon, overspreading the area by 2 p.m. Accumulations at this time could be from 4 inches to our south, up to 8 inches in Port Huron.

Detroit could average 5 to 7 inches. Snow falling throughout Wednesday afternoon into early Thursday morning. Temperatures remain below freezing, so anything on the roads and streets will not melt anytime soon. Bring your pets inside.

Friday is a dry day to dig out and prepare for more snow Saturday. It may be another accumulating event with windy conditions thrown in with the possibility of reduced visibility. Stay aware.
