Where's all the fall colors? This weather could be to blame

(WJBK) - The number one question FOX 2's Derek Kevra says he's being asked on social media right now -- what's up with the leaves!? Where are all the fall colors!?

A FOX 2 producer was in the Upper Peninsula last weekend a took a photo of a tree with mostly still green leaves, and some red and yellow coloring on the very tips. What's going on? We'd expect the colors to be a little more vibrant at this point.

The fall color forecast, on average, is early October for us down south in Michigan. When you go north, though, it technically starts to happen mid to late September.

The website Foliage Network, though, says things are running a bit late this year. Derek things there's a weather explination for this.

We've had warm temperatures, as well as dry weather. When we're low on rain, we see those leaves go from green to brown quicker.

Because it's been so warm and dry, unfortunately we haven't had -- and maybe will not have -- a great, colorful fall like we're used to.
