Protect your pets from poisoning

March is poison awareness month for animals and the Oakland County Animal Shelter and Pet Adoption Center. Joanie Toole offers the following advice to owners to help keep their pets safe. Make sure your home is safe, that includes making sure that if you do have plants that they are 'pet friendly.' Your local gardening center can help you choose the best varieties. Also make sure you keep all human medications out of reach and make sure the household chemicals you use are also safe for animals. If you have a pest problem, be acreful about pesticies that you use. And as always, limit human food to your pets. Foods like onions, grapes and chocolate can cause serious harm. This week's adoptable pet is Emma. She is a 7-year-old calico cat. If you are interested in adoption contact the shelter at (248) 858-1070.
