Protecting your pet from 'dog-on-dog' attacks

The staff at the Oakland County Animal Shelter and Pet Adoption Center has seen a rise in dog-on-dog attacks. This could be because many people use local dg parks to exercise their pets, although most attacks happen on residential streets. There are steps you can take to protect your pet. This includes making sure you can control your dog while on a leash. Know the area where you are walking and be very cautious when approaching other dogs. Be prepared for the worst. Watch for warning signs and have your dog under control at all times. Warning signs could be growling, tucked tail, raised hackles etc.  For more information about keeping you pet safe visit www.oakgov.com/petadoption.
