Police: Man found bound in vehicle after kidnapping at Macomb County gym

A suspect accused of kidnapping a man from outside a gym was arrested Monday night after a police chase ended in Sterling Heights.

Police said it appeared the 24-year-old victim was abducted at gunpoint by four armed males at Lifetime Fitness in the area of Hall and Hayes in Shelby Township. After the potential abduction was reported, police were told to be on the lookout for a suspect vehicle.

Police spotted the vehicle, a black GMC pickup truck, near 15 Mile and Dodge Park. The driver fled and police chased them until they crashed near Dearing and 15 Mile in Sterling Heights.

Officers chased the driver and caught the driver, who was the only suspect in the vehicle. Police said the victim was bound inside the vehicle. He was not hurt. Police also found a loaded rifle in the vehicle.

During an investigation, police also took two teens into custody, but they were released after police determined that they were not involved in the abduction, authorities said.

Police said the three other suspects who were involved fled on foot near 15 Mile and Van Dyke. Officers are still looking for them.

After the crash, police spent time investigating the victim's home, which was near the crash site.

Police said this crime was not random.
