Acetaminophen sold on Amazon recalled over complaints

More than 112,000 bottles of Amazon-brand Extra Strength Acetaminophen have been recalled after consumers reported finding discolored tablets, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The report was published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on October 2.

The voluntary recall, which was initiated Sept. 18 by Aurobindo Pharma USA Inc., involves 112,932 bottles of 500-milligram acetaminophen caplets sold through Amazon. 

The FDA said the recall was prompted by consumer complaints about discolored tablets. The agency has not yet assigned a classification indicating the level of health risk associated with the recall.

The affected medication was sold in 200-count, 500-count and 1,000-count bottles. 

Consumers can check their bottles for the following recalled lots:

  • 200-count: Lot ACD125040A, expiration date Sept. 30, 2027
  • 500-count: Lots ACD124036A and ACD124030A, expiration date Sept. 30, 2027; ACD124042A, expiration date Oct. 31, 2027; ACD124048B, expiration date Nov. 30, 2027; and ACD125010A, expiration date Feb. 29, 2028
  • 1,000-count: Lot ACD124048A, expiration date Nov. 30, 2027

The product was manufactured by Aurobindo Pharma USA Inc. and distributed by Amazon.com Services LLC.

Acetaminophen is commonly used as a pain reliever and fever reducer.
