The children of Beaumont Royal Oak were all smiles courtesy of the Children Miracle Network as they got to enjoy bike day.

For many it was their first time ever getting on a bicycle.

"It’s a way for kids to be like everyone else, they can ride their bikes with their peers and get stronger without even knowing it, it's therapy," physical therapist assistant Wendy Nicholls said.

Felipe Deloza's son received his first bike since coming to the United States.

"When we lived in Mexico he had a bike there but when we come here he didn't have one and every time he saw one kid riding a bike he would go towards him and say 'hey can I borrow it, can I use it' so that was really hard," he said.

Mirah Perkin's son also received a bike and he's all smiles.

"Darrin is such a happy child, he's always smiling and very thankful for his bike, he will have the help for his legs so his hips can be properly positioned and they will get the stretch they need," she said.

In the 14 years of this program, the Children’s Miracle Network has given out more than 900 bikes to children in Southeast Michigan.
