Detroit fire and police charity 'Chili Challenge' is Saturday at the Detroit Zoo

You may remember the old talking animals commercial in the 1980s for the Detroit Zoo.

Charlie LeDuff did and decided to use that as the inspiration for a public service announcement.  It's all to promote his 3rd Annual Chili Challenge at a new location this year.

They risk their lives every day to keep us safe. Now Detroit's police and firefighters are facing off for a good cause - and they need your help.

You can help support the families of fallen officers one bowl of chili at a time. LeDuff has teamed up with local restaurant owners Grace Keros and Dean Bach.

This year it benefits the wife and two children of Detroit Police Capt. Ken Steil who died in the line of duty and for Detroit officer Myron Jarrett's family after he was killed recently in a hit and run.

It is Saturday, Nov. 5  from noon until 4 p.m. at the Detroit Zoo, $10 to get into the zoo, free for zoo members and $10 to get into the tent where you will find chili, hot dogs, a cash bar and three musical acts.
