Detroit Police detective drunk, swerving on I-75, dashcam video shows

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (FOX 2) - A Detroit Police detective was arrested last week by Auburn Hills Police after he was swerving all over I-75 and had a BAC of almost twice the legal limit.

Auburn Hills Police said a driver called because someone was swerving all over the highway - which police confirmed in dashcam video they released that showed a Chevrolet Malibu swerving along I-75 just before Lapeer Road on Tuesday, April 30th.

The man behind the wheel was Noe Garcia, a detective in the Detroit Police Department.

Garcia was pulled over and asked to get out of the car. When he does, he has trouble keeping his balance but did follow officers' orders.

"The individual was very cooperative throughout the investigation," said Auburn Hills Police LT. Jill McDonnell.

Police said he had bloodshot, watery eyes and there was a strong smell of alcohol. When asked how much he had to drink, he said "not much".

His breath showed otherwise. He blew .144 BAC, almost twice the legal limit of .08.

"Officers are held, obviously, to higher standard and we're going to treat him just like we would anyone else we come into contact with, who is drunk driving," McDonnell said.

Garcia also had two weapons - which is against the law while drunk. He faces a charge of drunk driving and possesion under the influence charge.

"Whenever you get behind the wheel, whether you're under the influence of alcohol or other substances, including marijuana, you put everyone in danger - including yourself and other motorists," McDonnell said. 

Detroit Police say they've launched an investigation and say Garcia is still working on desk duty. However, he cannot carry gun during the investigation and cannot have public contact.

Garcia is due back in court on May 22.
