Detroit Police surprise Detroiters with cash for the holidays
DETROIT (FOX 2) - With Christmas now just seven days away, the Detroit Police Department is spreading holiday cheer. Instead of handing out tickets, officers are giving out cash to those in need.
"The response that I get from the community is amazing," said Chief James Craig. "We see this also as an opportunity for the police and community to connect."
From the Capuchin Soup Kitchen to neighborhoods on the east and west sides, officers handed out $100 bills -- a little help that those Detroiters say is lifting a big weight off of them this holiday season.
These Christmas surprises have been made possible through the generous financial donation from a person that wishes to remain anonymous.
FOX 2's Erika Erickson has the story.
