ECORSE, Mich. (FOX 2) - An Ecorse city official is charged after an alleged crime spree in Wisconsin. Forty-two-year-old Timothy Sadowski is accused of multiple break-ins and leading police on a chase through the woods.
Big picture view:
Sadowski is the controller of Ecorse, a government position that keeps track of financial records, and these allegations are shocking.
In Wisconsin, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office got a call on Tuesday, March 31, about a disturbance near the town of Dekorra. Police say Sadowski pulled off the freeway and ran into the woods, where they lost him, and later got a tip about an attempted break-in.
Police arrived, but he was not there, as it appeared he had run into the woods again. In response, multiple K-9 units and drones searched the area but could not find him.
The following morning, police got a tip about a suspicious person on the highway outside a town called Poynette. Sadowski was apprehended, and police say he was found with a number of stolen items. They believe he had broken into multiple vehicles.
Dig deeper:
Sadowski was charged with attempted burglary, damaging property, and disorderly conduct. His office was empty, and FOX 2 could not get a hold of the Ecorse mayor either in person, over the phone, or through email.
Meanwhile, Ecorse residents weighed in.
"I think it’s messed up because this city is already going through enough. We don’t even have a grocery store around here. I guess that’s the game," said Pierre.
FOX 2 left messages for Sadowski, the city attorney, and the mayor requesting comment.
Sadowski appears to be on unpaid leave, but official confirmation is still pending.
FOX 2 will update this report when more information becomes available.
