Elderly man, daughter tied up, robbed inside Wyandotte home
WYANDOTTE, Mich. (WJBK) - An elderly man and his daughter terrorized in their Wyandotte home.
An 80-year-old man and his 56-year-old daughter were victims of a home invasion and police are looking for the suspects.
"I put my hands behind the chair, they tied me up," said the man. "They told me to be quiet and give them my money and jewelry."
He was at home just after 1:30 PM in Wyandotte on 16th Street when a man came to the door and tells the elderly father that his daughter has crashed her bicycle at the gas station.
But the guy was lying and the homeowner's daughter was at the gas station but never crashed. When she returned, she walked into the home invasion and was also tied up.
The suspect tied her to the chair and started stealing jewelry and cash. He then put a large knife up against her back.
"He made me walk down the street with him," she said. "He said 'I'm going to let you go.'"
She ran to safety and the bad guy ran as well.
Security camera footage shows him running two blocks to a nearby Sunoco station.
Police say he had a bright orange backpack. He's seen on surveillance video tucking the backpack inside his coat then jumping into the back seat of a getaway car.
"It's very uncharacteristic for this community," said Chief Daniel Grant. "Certainly it makes you very upset when you see someone who has worked their entire life to deal with a criminal offense like this."
The suspects left some evidence. The getaway driver pulled up to a pump at Sunoco but doesn't get gas - he does get out and drops a cardboard meal drink carton holder from a Circle K gas station into the trash.
Police dug out that Circle K holder and when they get the driver they can match for DNA. And the first guy with the orange backpack? He actually pulled up to the home invasion on a 10 speed bike and left the bike at the scene.
Do you recognize the bike?
"I'm pretty shaken up but I'm okay," the elderly man said.
The suspect stole cash and jewelry including the 50 year wedding anniversary ring belonging to the daughter' mother.
"They took my earrings, they took my ring," the homeowner's daughter said. "They took it all."
Police say it is likely that the suspect lives in the area due to him pulling up on a bike.
The woman who lives at the house said she had seen the home invader before walking up and down the block.
