Escaped carjack suspect found hiding under matress in Redford house

REDFORD Twp. Mich. (WJBK) - An escaped parolee is back behind bars after more than 24 hours on the run.

At 10 p.m. Wednesday parole absconder Rowvontae Tarrell Walker was apprehended and taken into custody after he was found inside a home on Dalby Street in Redford Township.

Officials are still investigating but they believe Walker's friends were inside the house and those people could face charges.

"Acting on intelligence after interviewing family and friends that he might be at one of two locations in Redford," said Holly Kramer of the Michigan Department of Corrections. "We sent teams to both and found him hiding under a mattress."

On Wednesday, 19-year-old Walker got away from the Lawton parole office in Detroit where he was being questioned about a carjacking.

"He was sitting at an agent's desk and when he was distracted, he walked out the door," Kramer said. "We are reviewing our policies to see if changes need to be made so this doesn't happen again."

As Walker got away on foot, search teams were activated and a manhunt got underway.

"We had a team of 40 law enforcement officers looking for him interviewing people he knows trying to track him down," Kramer said.

Walker is not a stranger to police, he was locked up in 2013 after he was sentenced for an unarmed robbery in Detroit.

His parole started in the fall of last year.

Now officials say Walker is being held at the Detroit Reentry Center and more charges could come after this case is turned over to the prosecutor's office.
