Fake evacuation orders being telephoned amid water woes, Oakland County warns
OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. (WJBK) - An imposter is trying to spread fake evacuation orders amid the water woes in Oakland County.
The Oakland County Homeland Security Division is alerting the public that a person, posing as a representative from the Oakland County Emergency Operations Center, is calling some facilities impacted by the 14 Mile Road water main break and telling them to evacuate.
The county says there are no official evacuation orders at this time.
If a business receives a call from someone claiming to be from the EOC directing them to take any particular action, you can call the real EOC at 248-858-5300 to determine whether the information is factual.
More than 300,000 residents are affected by a a water main break that happened Monday evening in Farmington Hills. The break of a 48-inch line prompted a boil water advisory for about a dozen communities in western Oakland County.
The break is also affecting hospitals and schools. Some students were kept home from school for the second day in a row on Wednesday.
Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital says about 15 patients were transferred Tuesday to another hospital. Outpatient clinics are reopening, using boiled water, but elective procedures are canceled Wednesday for a second day.
Officials say the advisory is expected to last until at least Friday evening as repairs are made.
