Family of man killed execution style pleas for help

DETROIT (WJBK) - A killer is still on the loose after he shot a man seven months ago in cold blood.

Kaymara Green-Baker was killed at a bus stop on the corner of Warren and Livernois in Detroit. Green-Baker and his friend left their job at the car wash shortly before 7:30 p.m. on January 22.

The car wash is located across the street from the crime scene.

The victim’s mother, Tonicia Baker, misses him every day.

"He was my everything. He was my happy baby. He was my Valentines baby,” said Baker. "I didn't really want him to work there, but I couldn't stop him, he was a young man learning how to be a father,"

Surveillance video captured Green-Baker’s friend, who was already shot in the arm, running away from the gunman, cutting through the neighborhood and jumping on a D-Dot bus. Police believe the quick escape likely stopped the gunman’s pursuit.

Detroit police are still putting the pieces together, but say several neighborhood gangs have been a problem in the area, including one group that goes by the name “West Coast.”

"We know that is several people. We don't have the actual names of these individuals. That’s why we're asking for the public's assistance and developing that information," said Det. Detrick Mott.

The victim’s friend gave Detroit police a statement saying he doesn’t know the shooter.

However, police believe there may have been an argument between the two victims and the shooter at a former Coney Island restaurant, which was also located right across from the crime scene.

Surveillance video too graphic for television showed the killer shoot Green-Baker, then stand over him and fire more shots execution style before chasing after the friend.

Kaymara Green-Baker died a few weeks before he would have turned 21.

The victim’s family is asking for the public’s help.

“For those people out there, you don't say anything, but if you end up on the other side of the track and it happens to you, you're going to want someone to speak out on your behalf," Louise Browning, the victim's grandmother said.

"This face I'm looking at it's like I'm looking at myself. It's just something I can't get back,” said Baker.
