Former murder suspect has charges dropped: 'I am still innocent'

(WJBK) - He spent weeks in jail accused of killing a police officer.

Now prosecutors admitted they had the wrong guy and DeAngelo Davis is no longer considered a suspect.

FOX 2: "Hi DeAngelo can we talk to you for a second?"

"I'm still innocent," he said.

DeAngelo Davis walked out of the Wayne County Jail Wednesday night a free man. This, after Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced charges had been dropped against Davis, who had been the number one suspect in the shooting death of Wayne State Sgt. Collin Rose.

Worthy declined to answer questions at a short press conference earlier today.

"None of us, including you, want to jeopardize the investigation, so we will be taking no questions," she said.

FOX 2: "Anything you want to say to police?"

Davis: "Nothing to say about the police, nothing to say to police."

FOX 2: "Are you angry at them for arresting you?"

Davis: "No."

Davis walking out of jail with an obvious limp. A witness to the police shooting claimed the suspect ran from the scene by foot.

Investigators never found the gun, and then there was surveillance video from a Detroit business near Lincoln and Brainard that showed DeAngelo Davis during the same time the canine officer was gunned down - the evening of Nov. 22.

"Because we made an arrest, the investigation did not stop," Detroit Police Chief James Craig said. "It continues to this day. We are optimistic."

Police have released video of a possible witness to the murder (see photo gallery). A reward of $15,000 has been offered for information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect.
