Is there a connection between the Tiger's opening day success and the following summer?

The Detroit Tigers don't often open their season in March. It's only happened four times in the past.

But through some data digging, Fox 2's Derek Kevra noticed an interesting trend.

When the Detroit Tigers lose on opening day in March, Michigan receives a warmer than average summer. But when they win on opening day in March, the summer is considered normal:

2003 - Loss - Warmer than average temperatures

2008 - Loss - Warmer than average temperatures

2014 - Win - Normal temperaters

2018 - Loss - Warmer than average temperatures

Now is this a scientific observation worth digging into further? Has Fox 2's morning meteorologist discovered a ground shaking trend that will leave researchers in awe? No.

But if you're cheering for the Tigers to win come opening day, know what you just might get in return.
