'It was already too late': 72-year-old woman killed in Redford Township house fire
REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (FOX 2) - A family is mourning a 72-year-old Redford Township woman killed in a house fire Thursday night.
"She was a wonderful person," said Christel Jones, Diane Jones' daughter.
What we know:
Diane's other daughter and grandson were asleep upstairs in their home on Wakenden near 7 Mile and Grand River when they heard smoke detectors around 10:30 p.m.
"They both came downstairs, my mom's door to her room was closed. They opened it, and it was filled with smoke," Christel said.
Christel's sister and nephew tried to get Diane out, but the smoke and flames were too intense.

"Hearing her crying for help and I sit there, and I can't do nothing," Diane's grandson, Daniel Beatty said. "I got in there, it was already too late."
Eventually, Diane's daughter who was inside the burning home had to jump out of a window to escape. She was taken to a hospital to be evaluated for smoke inhalation.
Weather Causes Issues:
Icy conditions complicated the process of extinguishing the fire. According to a fire official, the home was icing up as they battled the flames, making it difficult to move ladders.
Also, the home had additions that complicated the fire fighting.
The fire took several hours to put out.
What we don't know:
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
